Colorado Springs, Colo. -- Runner Daniel Castle announced on Wednesday his intention to move on from the 1500 and spend this year preparing for a new event: the 1x1=1 (a.k.a. Racing Down the Aisle). Joining him in this endeavor will be Becca Burditt, his teammate on the US Air Force Academy track and cross country teams.
"Becca is the only girl fast enough to catch me," Castle said, snapping his fingers. "And I think she's a great catch, so it works out well. Oh, snap!"
Castle, newly commissioned as an Air Force Second Lieutenant, proposed to Burditt, a USAFA senior, on a mountain at sunset. His personal public relations team was on the scene to capture the moment, but photographs have not yet been released to the media. Sources close to the couple say it was "a perfect photo finish."
Castle's married sister was mistaken for his girlfriend at his commissioning ceremony, leading to early rumors that Castle and Burditt were already engaged. When asked about the resemblance between the two, Castle said, "My big sister is so awesome, incredible, fantastic and perfect that I knew I had to marry someone with the same name."
An English major at USAFA, Castle plans to continue developing his writing "skizzills" in a graduate English program at CSU in the fall. "Becca's beauty defies description," Castle said, "so it will be a worthy challenge developing my writing abilities to the point that I can adequately depict her on the page."
The couple plans to marry next summer at Glen Eyrie in Colorado Springs. "We think that the only fitting place to hold a Castle wedding is an actual castle," Burditt explained.
Castle says he is very happy and looks forward to the future with his fiancee. "Although she is not a blue-haired, 7-foot-tall elf, which I always sort of dreamed of meeting, I love her very much. Even more than my new motorcycle. Sweet." |
