*1* Joshua turned 5 months old on Monday. Am I in a time warp, or do second children grow up faster than their older siblings? It seems like Katherine was a newborn forever, but Joshua so quickly became an infant, then a baby...next thing I know he'll be asking for his matching-funds for his first car purchase (poor kid, Dave Ramsey has doomed his existence to a non-sugar-daddy life).
*2* Joshua has been grabbing for things on the table for several weeks at least. He is entranced whenever he watches us eat. He tried to take my lunch away on Monday when I was eating leftover sweet potatoes. I thought, "Why not?" and let him taste some. Katherine enthusiastically ran to get a spoon and "helped" feed him (by which I mean, shoved the whole spoon deep into his mouth). He still has a little tongue-thrust motion going on, so I will wait till six months like I intended before really introducing food, but he did seem to enjoy the taste.
*3* He is so roly-poly. Now every time I lay him on his back, he flips onto his tummy. He likes to scoot around in a circle. He is a man on the move. Nothing is safe anymore... He can fling himself off the blue bean bag chair he loved to sleep in a couple months ago. He can almost get out of the Bumbo. He rolls off the baby mat and onto the hardwood. Amazingly, we have survived five months without his falling off anything high. Katherine fell off beds, couches, and chairs several times before she got to this age. I guess we're better parents this time around. : )
*4* He seems to be trying to teethe, and has been since about three months. The drooling has finally slowed up. The bottom two front teeth feel right below the surface. He is too uncoordinated to hold on to teething toys, which makes him very frustrated. So he gnaws on the side straps of the Ergo every time I put him in it, soaking the sides with drool.
*5* He discovered TOYS recently! I got the baby toys out of the basement yesterday, and he has started exploring those. His first toy experience was with the small giraffe from his playmat mobile. He figured out how to get it off the hooks, and he could just manage to hang on to it enough to chew on it, and the poor thing's feet, tail, and nose have been gummed to death.

*6* Joshua is very loved by his sister. Loved by a 2 1/2 year old girl = being dressed in necklaces, alternately soothed/yelled at for crying, being changed and diapered like a baby doll (clumsily and inefficiently), being talked to in a falsetto and called "brurry," and having his cheeks smunched.
*7* He is the smiliest baby I've ever seen. The appearance of any person in his visual radar results in a slow smile spreading across his face till he's positively grinning. He is a delight to everyone who meets him.
P.S. Do you think he spends too much time with Bugaboo?
